The challenge wasn't just organizing information, it was reducing anxiety.  Borrowers needed to feel in control of a process that's normally confusing and stressful from start to finish.

Mortgage applications ask people to track documents, complete tasks, and monitor progress through a process most of them have never done before. The platform needed to make every stage clear and low-friction without oversimplifying the real complexity underneath.

The core challenge was designing a system robust enough to handle every state a real lending process produces, while keeping the borrower oriented at every step.

Documents fail to upload. Tasks move between stages. Payments succeed or fail. Every one of these moments needed a designed response so nothing ever felt like a dead end. Getting that right meant mapping the full range of outcomes before designing a single screen.

We mapped the full borrower journey from initial document upload through approval, identifying every point where users could get stuck, confused, or drop off.

That research shaped a task-based structure that broke the mortgage process into clear to-do, in-review, and completed stages, giving borrowers a constant, visible sense of progress through a process that previously felt like a black box.

We designed a complete borrower portal alongside internal CRM tools, extending the same clarity to loan officers and real estate partners working behind the scenes.

The borrower-facing portal includes document management with full upload states, an interactive mortgage estimate tool with side-by-side payment comparisons, a credit monitoring dashboard, and a mortgage calculator. On the internal side, we designed an SMS template system for loan officers and a realtor-facing portal, built on the same design system as the borrower experience.
